Who else is excited for Catersource 2017?
The big show in the Big Easy is right around the corner, and there is plenty of excitement around this year’s event.
For 25 years now, Catersource has been the essential conference date for caterers across the continent.
This year (like every other), there will be plenty of great food, great people, great discussion and great opportunities for networking and learning about the latest trends in our industry.
Personally, we relish this chance every year. It’s a great opportunity to meet with our clients from around the country face-to-face, and discover what kinds of trends are really taking hold across the catering landscape.
Like many others, we approach Catersource with a sense of enthusiasm and curiosity.
For many of us who have been to prior events, we already have a sense of what to expect from the Catersource experience.
But every year, Catersource welcomes a group of individuals who have either never been or are new to the catering space altogether.
Rather than just walking into the conference blindly, we felt it would be useful to provide you with an easy reference guide of tips and tricks to help you navigate through your maiden voyage.
So for all you Catersource rookies out there—here are the top seven things you should know and/or do while attending your first ever Catersource.
1. Make a Plan
As is the case with many conferences, the sheer volume of booths and attractions at Catersource can seem a bit overwhelming for a first-timer.
So before you go, make sure you read the preview and put together a handy schedule of times and rooms for sessions (keynotes and breakouts) and show booths to check out.
Here’s your first: Booth 1353. That us!
2. Be Memorable
It may be your first time here, but don’t let that turn you into a wallflower.
This is your opportunity to do something different, step outside your comfort zone and make a first impression! Do something bold that’ll help you stand out in a positive and memorable way for other attendees.
3. Enjoy the Community
If you’ve worked in catering for a while, you’re already well aware of this point.
But if you’re effectively just as new to the catering space as you are to Catersource itself, then you should learn this now. Caterers are a family. We look out for each other and share a collective passion for bringing great food, great service and great experiences to all our events.
Catersource is the ideal venue to share your perspective with other caterers and find your place in that family.
4. Attend Extra Sessions
While at Catersource, you should definitely take the time to attend the extra sessions.
Learn about some of the new technologies for tracking logistics. Show a genuine curiosity in the new methods of appetizer presentation.
These extra sessions are full of interesting tidbits of information that you can use to improve your own business.
One example is the annual Monday Night Party.
This year, attendees will be venturing out of the city to the NOLA Motorsports Park for some treats from the folks at Catering Creations. Check it out!
If you haven’t already begun discussing the conference through your social channels, then we’re sorry to say that you’re a little behind. Get engaged with the hashtag #CS2017 on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and others.
Then, at the conference, you can look to move those conversations from the social sphere to the interpersonal one.
6. Make Connections
Like an eager swimmer, the best attitude you can bring to Catersource for the first time is to dive right in!
Be a proactive representative of your company. Our industry is very tight-knit.
Many caterers work together on the same events in their respective communities. All of us share an ethic of helpfulness and selflessness, which means we want to help you.
Use Catersource as an opportunity to create new business and learn how we can all help each other be successful moving forward.
7. Enjoy the Keynotes
The keynotes at Catersource consistently feature some of the most intelligent and insightful catering industry experts you can find.
Prior shows have included such fun personalities as Andrew Zimmerman.
Our can’t-miss sessions include:
- Developing Better Management and Operational Systems
- Consulting: The Most Cost-Effective Way to Improve your Catering Business
- The Leadership Triangle: Developing Leaders in Your Company
- Managing Your Sales Team to Peak Performance
Whether it’s your first time or twenty-fifth, we’re confident that this year’s conference will be one to remember.
If you’re looking for some next-level marketing to really turn things up a notch, we here at nuphoriq would be happy to help you out.
